Lubrication is the process of reducing friction and the associated wear between moving surfaces by introducing a film of lubricant between them. Apart from reducing friction, the lubricant also performs the acts of cooling the machine parts, reducing deposit formation on machine surfaces, etc. At least 50% of the new lube oils that are being bought are not tested upon receipt. Lubricants are the “lifeblood” of machinery, and therefore, quality is extremely important. Contaminated lube oils can adversely affect asset performance and cause serious damage to machinery, particularly engine systems.
There are multiple lubricating oils available in the market. However, their properties can vary substantially between one product and another. With Viswa’s lube program, apart from the conventional tests, the lube oils are tested for additional parameters. Viswa, using over a dozen instruments totally devoted to analysis of lubricating oils, can benchmark the lubes with reference to various parameters such as volatility, lubricity, etc. This provides an option to choose the right lubricating oil, which will result in maximum efficiency and savings for the customer.
With continuous use, lube oils tend to become contaminated with oxidation products, wear debris, combustion by-products, water, fuel, coolant, etc. Testing lubricant oils enables our customers to gain insight on engine wear, unusual engine performance, and plan when to replace the lubricating oils.
